We recently concluded Smaran, a heartfelt seven-day art exhibition in memory of the late Chitrakaar Kritika Uniyal Ji, at Uttara Art Gallery in Dehradun. The event brought together artists, students, family members, and art lovers to reflect on her work, celebrate her life, and continue the conversations she inspired.

A Thoughtful Opening

The exhibition opened with a simple and meaningful ceremony that included the lighting of the lamp, followed by floral tributes from her family and mentor, Mohammad Moin Ji. It was a moment of quiet remembrance and respect, setting the tone for the days ahead.

Art, Conversations & Community

Each day of Smaran offered more than just artwork on the walls. Visitors took part in open conversations about the current art landscape, and special attention was given to the role of women in the art world—a subject close to Kritika Ji’s heart. Her work, known for its expressive detail and connection to tradition, reminded us of the value of thoughtful, honest creativity.

Student Participation

Students from Ashwath School added a lively touch to the exhibition. Their artwork and enthusiasm brought new energy to the space, and it was encouraging to see young minds exploring art with such curiosity and confidence.

Website Launch

A key highlight came on May 18, when we officially launched our website in the presence of Mr. Yugal Kishore Pant, General Secretary, Department of Culture, Uttarakhand. The website aims to preserve Kritika Ji’s legacy while also serving as a platform for future events and artist outreach.

Closing Reflections

On the final day, Mr. Gopal Ram Binwal, Deputy Municipal Commissioner, and Mrs. Indrani Pandhi, owner of Himachal Times visited the exhibition. Their feedback and support meant a lot to us. Mrs. Pandhi appreciated the quality of the work displayed and acknowledged the importance of efforts like these in keeping local art alive and visible.

Thank You

We are grateful to everyone who participated in Smaran, from artists and dignitaries to students, visitors, and volunteers. A special thanks to our organizing team, who worked behind the scenes to make sure every detail was handled with care and respect.

Moving Forward

Smaran was more than a tribute, it was a reminder of the community that surrounds and supports art in Uttarakhand. We hope to build on this experience and continue supporting artists, exhibitions, and programs that create meaningful connections.
